Specialties

Queue management software for medical specialties

A dental chair, a pediatric waiting room and a diagnostic lab have very different mornings. A root canal overruns by twenty minutes; a paediatrician sees a sick child and a worried parent together; a lab takes samples in a rush at eight and calls patients back for reports at four. Queue management software for medical specialties has to follow those workflows rather than force one shape on all of them. These fourteen pages each take one specialty and describe the queue as that clinic actually runs it.

The TOKENN dashboard on a phone showing a live queue with a wait estimate against each patient.
The same queue engine everywhere. What changes by specialty is how many queues, and at what pace.

What stays the same in every specialty

The same way in

A token by QR or WhatsApp message, in whichever language the patient writes.

The same desk

Reception still issues walk-in tokens in two taps for anyone without a smartphone.

The same room

The waiting-room TV still calls each number out loud, on hardware you already own.

The same price, ₹1 per patient

Nothing to integrate and no hardware to buy, whichever specialty you run.

The features hub describes each of those pieces in full. The pages below describe how they behave in your kind of clinic.

Why the specialty changes the queue

The mechanics of a token are the same everywhere. What differs is consult length and how much it varies, whether patients come back the same day, whether they are seen with a companion, and how much of the visit happens away from the doctor. A physiotherapy session is a fixed thirty minutes; an ENT consult is eight minutes or forty depending on what is found; a diabetes clinic sends half its patients to the lab and needs them back on the same token. A clinic queue system by specialty is really a set of defaults for those differences: how waits are estimated, when the two-ahead reminder fires, and how a return visit rejoins the line.

A clinic queue system by specialty: how to read these pages

Each page opens with the morning as it happens in that specialty, then the three or four things that change in the queue, then what the patient sees on WhatsApp, then the questions we are asked most by that kind of clinic. They are written for the doctor and the front desk rather than for a hospital IT department. If your specialty is not listed, the general OPD queue management page is the right starting point, and most of it will apply.

What these pages will not claim

A queue tool is not a clinical system, and every page below says so in its own words. TOKENN holds no patient records, no diagnoses, no photographs and no treatment plans. It sends nothing between visits, which means it does not chase a diabetes review, an antenatal appointment, a vaccination due date or a six-month dental recall. Deciding who is due and reaching out to them is clinical and commercial work that stays with your practice and whatever records system you already run.

What it does is the day itself: the token, the honest wait, the walk-in at the desk, the emergency moved to the front, the patient parked while they are at the lab, and the number called out loud when it is their turn. That boundary is deliberate. A queue that tried to hold the medical record would need an integration project, and the integration project is the reason most clinic software never gets past the demo.

Which specialties gain the most

The gain is largest where consult length varies most. A general OPD, an ENT clinic and a dermatology practice all put a two-minute review next to a thirty-minute procedure, and a single averaged wait estimate is wrong for both of them all morning. Splitting those into queues with their own pace is what makes the number a patient sees worth believing, and it is the single change most clinics notice first.

The second largest gain is where the visit is not one visit. Eye clinics move a patient through optometry, the doctor and the dispensary; diagnostic labs take a sample and see the patient again for the report; a general clinic sends a patient for a blood test and needs them back on the same token. Queues that model the return are worth more to those practices than any feature on a comparison table.

Where the gain is smallest is a practice with genuinely uniform visit lengths and patients who keep to time, such as a fixed-slot physiotherapy list. Those clinics still get the walk-in desk, the display and the messages, but the honest position is that they were already running close to on time, and the pages below say so rather than pretending every specialty has the same problem.
